Biography

Joe has been practicing tax and estate planning law since 1994. His strong suit is client counseling – helping businesses and individuals make informed decisions about how to organize their business and personal affairs in a tax-efficient manner, but always putting the client’s personal situation first.

Joe’s favorite tax saying is “The tail should never wag the dog” – meaning that taxes should never be the first consideration, when deciding how you should: operate (or sell) your business, get married, retire, or leave your money to the next generation (or charity). Once you have made those decisions, we can discuss how to implement them in a tax-efficient manner that respects and supports your values.

Professionalism is dear to Joe’s heart, which is why he has been Board-certified in tax law for more than 20 years, and is also what eventually led him to become Chair of the Tax Section of The Florida Bar. Professionalism, and caring for taxpayers, also led Joe to be recognized with the ABA Tax Section’s Janet Spragens Pro Bono Award in 2008.

Joe enjoys educating future tax attorneys as an adjunct professor in the University of Miami’s LL.M. He also volunteers with several local organizations, including Legal Services of Greater Miami, and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Joe and his wife, Heather, are both natives of South Florida, and have raised three daughters.
